I have joined the 28-day editorial challenge by inkygoodness and our third challenge was to create a story for the Anorak Magazine.
Studio Anorak is an independent kids publishing house established in 2006 by Cathy Olmedillas, formerly of 90s lifestyle bibles The Face and Sleazenation.
Anorak Magazine, the ‘happy mag for kids’ is aimed at boys and girls aged between 6 and 12 years old. DOT is aimed at pre-schoolers. Both titles are unisex and sold all around the world online, in kids boutiques, museum shops and newsagents.
Brief
The summer edition of Anorak will have for theme: PLANTS. Why? They are magicians as they transform light into energy. Some eat insects, others are just happy with water and good soil. The plant world is full of artists, there are so many incredible varieties of plants, all weird and wonderful.
Approach
My concept is around the idea of a "Plants Day" in a school. The teacher encourages the students to share their plants with the class, and as we all know, kids just want to be kids. They have an amazing ability to demonstrate compassion in such a simple way that the story ends with a very simple lesson.
About the technical side... I will definitely simplify more the shapes of the drawing. It will be a little challenging to add color to it, but I'm excited to see how it turns out.
